& Installation Technician

The Position
Positions in this class perform a variety of inspections and tests of commercial weighing and measuring devices. Level I is an entry-level position, under close supervision receives training, and performs limited inspections and testing. Level II is the full working level and under general supervision performs a wide variety of inspections and tests. Level III is the full working level, which requires very limited supervision. Employment may be made at any level based on experience. This is a flexibly staffed series – incumbents appointed at the lower may be promoted up to the highest level of the class subject to meeting the employment standards and licensing requirements.
The Pay
- Level I: $15.00-18.00 hrly
- Level II: $18.50-21.00 hrly
- Level III: $21.50-24.00 hrly
Significant Duties
- Inspects, tests and calibrate a wide variety of retail, industrial and specialty scales for purposes of accuracy within established tolerance limits and for compliance with specifications and user requirements.
- Investigate complaints, issues, and recommend correction.
- Completes forms on tests and inspections performed.
- Provide excellent and courteous customer service.
- Establish and maintain effective customer relationships.
Working Conditions
Possess and maintain a good driving record and good driving habits; adherence to related Federal, State and local safety laws, regulations, and ordinances; wear and use proper and appropriate safety clothing and equipment; work under adverse weather conditions; work outdoors, on uneven ground or floor surfaces, and on slippery surfaces, or come into contact with water; work in environments that are noisy or are subject to sudden changes and/or extremes in air temperature or humid; and work at elevations above and under ground.
Minimum Qualifications
License/Certification or Education: Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license. Ability to perform moderately heavy physical labor requiring dexterity, mechanical and electrical aptitude.
Conditions of Employment
Be available to work weekends, holidays and evenings when assigned or in emergency situations; possess valid California class B driver’s license within 6 months from date of employment; possess valid Service Agents license from County Weights and Measures within 6 months from date of employment, subject to random drug and alcohol testing. Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical exam.
Physical and Sensory Requirements
Lift and carry items weighing up to 75 pounds. Perform tasks requiring physical effort such as lifting pushing, bending, stooping, repetitive motion, unusually light or firm gripping, and coordinated skillful movements of fingers, hands or arms; ability to operate motor vehicle, distinguish and identify sounds and voices in a noisy environment. May come in contact with a variety of toxic elements or irritants, plants, animal or food material or waste, vibration, moving objects, nonionizing radiation including sunshine, electricity and hand or power tools.

Vacation: accrues at the rate of 2.1 hours per pay period to a maximum of 12 days per year. The rate increases after 5, 10 & 20 years of service.
